Artist Statement

My recent work focuses on architecture and nature. This fascination first arose on a trip to Barcelona. I walked into Casa Batlló, by Antonio Gaudi, and fell into a pool of light and water. Above, the ceiling swirled into a seashell cocoon; below, the walls melted and danced. From that moment, my love affair with architecture began.

I seek out the dreamlike, ethereal quality of Gaudi’s design in my own artwork. The recurring swirls of water and curving arches in my paintings allude to my underwater experience in Casa Batlló. In Remember Paris, the city drips into the Seine as I struggle to keep afloat in the rising current. Water appears again in Red Line, which was inspired by a long layover at Metro Center.

My grandmother introduced me to Gaudi’s work. Sagrada is painted in her memory. In the watercolor, pieces of Gaudi’s cathedral Sagrada Familia (Sacred Family) crumble and fall into the ocean beside me.

Thank you for visiting my website, and please enjoy!
